Behind the Little Yellow Door: 68 Notting Hill Gate

Less of a pop-up and more of a stay-put, The Little Yellow Door is celebrating its six-month lease extension this Spring. Renowned for infamous house parties, retro gaming nights, supper clubs and Thursday takeovers, the fictional flat share, which began in 2014, is keeping its roots firmly in the heart of Notting Hill.

With new American ‘housemate’ Hank, the bar-cum-living-room-dining-room will continue to open its door four days a week for the foreseeable future, from Wednesday through to Saturday. I headed down there last Wednesday to celebrate the lease renewal and see what all the fuss was about.

The Little Yellow Door (TLYD) kicks off each week with Supper Club on Wednesdays. Last weeks celebratory special consisted of a four course meal enjoyed with fellow guests - strangers and friends - and washed down by a range of cocktails.

Operation Buster - Evans & Peel

If you’ve read my previous posts it’ll be no surprise to you that I’m a sucker for a speakeasy. For a Saturday night get together with my boyfriend, sister and brother-in-law Evans & Peel was on the agenda.

There’s no booking a table at this detective agency inspired bar - an appointment is what you’ll need, along with details of your case.

Naturally my case involved a dog and in light of current UK news, a hint of politics.

With the promise that 'discreet detectives use their bespoke skills to work out how to give clients that special and unique service’, we headed to Earls Court not knowing what to expect, some of us suitably in character, clad in trench coats...

'Knowhere Special'

1/25/2015

The name of this basement bar itself is intriguing in its apparent
self-deprecation. There is a real ‘back street alley’ vibe as you enter the speakeasy-inspired venue, past the graffiti walls and down the bare wooden steps towards a red velvet curtain serving as the entry point.

The hidden element borderlines the exclusive; with only 30 or so seats, booking is a necessity.

Here is a place where every detail is thoughtfully considered - from the eclectic mix of furniture and décor to the imaginative menu.

Effort has been made to create an atmosphere reminiscent of a living room with dim lighting, cosy enclaves and the chatter of friends enjoying their evening...
